(TargetDailyNews.com) – 91-year-old country music legend Willie Nelson has canceled his appearance at some shows due to illness, but a statement indicates that he is expected to resume touring shortly.
No details have been provided regarding the nature of Nelson’s sickness, but the most recent statement suggested he would join the Outlaw Music Festival tour on July 2nd in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Nelson’s doctor has given him the green light to go back on tour.
If things go according to plan, Nelson will join the tour on the eighth show after missing the first seven. The tour includes several big-name acts including Bob Dylan, Robert Plant with Alison Krause, John Mellencamp, and Billy Strings. The tour has gone on without Nelson as the headlining act.
Nelson said he would not quit playing music and going on tour despite his advanced age. He has considered quitting after previous tours but always gets the itch to go out on the road again. This year, Nelson released a new album called “The Border” and released a collaboration with Billy Strings in 2023 called “California Sober.” Nelson was also inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2023 and performed with Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow, and Chris Stapleton.
In February, Nelson was identified as the oldest musician still touring and recording music today. Some of the other names just behind Nelson on the list are John Mayall, Frankie Valli, Herb Alpert, and Buddy Guy. In addition to still recording and touring, Nelson has remained a relevant name in the music industry.
In the 2023 Grammy Awards, Nelson won the Best Country Music Album Award with his 2022 release, “A Beautiful Time.” He was also nominated for the 2024 Grammy Awards for the best Bluegrass album for his album titled “Bluegrass.”
The Outlaw tour has received positive reviews despite Nelson’s absence from the bill. Reviewers have reportedly celebrated Bob Dylan’s dramatic set list changes from previous tours.
