Will Joe Manchin Finally Ditch The Democrats?

(TargetDailyNews.com) – Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) is “seriously” considering leaving the Democratic Party due to a widening divide between the more conservative Democrats of West Virginia and the ones in Washington, D.C.

The news broke of Manchin’s possible departure from the party when he told West Virginia radio host Hoppy Kercheval that he was dissatisfied with both the “D” and “R” brands, referring to the mainstream politics of both parties.

Rumors have been circulating about Manchin’s possible departure from the Democratic Party since 2021. Manchin denied those rumors at the time, but he did acknowledge that Republicans approached him nearly every day about becoming a Republican. Additionally, he also acknowledged that it would most likely be easier to join the Republican Party than to remain a Democrat.

However, this seems unlikely. If Manchin does leave the Democratic Party, it is more probable that he would take the path of Arizona Senator Kirsten Sinema, who also left the Democratic Party and became an Independent. Sinema, however, still caucuses with Senate Democrats, and Manchin would most likely do the same.

Manchin has previously endured fierce criticism from other Senate Democrats, being accused of being a cog in the machine that is the Senate Democratic majority. In 2021, he opposed Senate Democrats in the pushing of voting rights legislation, which drew severe condemnations from other Democrats such as Bernie Sanders.

Manchin’s stubborn opposition to the more progressive members of his party has also resulted in calls to end the Senate filibuster, the rule that requires 60 votes to end debate on a bill. Critics of the measure say the rule prevents the Senate from passing a bill with a simple majority of 51 senators, the way the Constitution intended.

Manchin, however, has sided with Republicans in saying that ending the current call by Democrats to scrap the rule is strictly for partisan purposes, which would allow a razor-thin Democratic majority to push through sweeping, far-left policies.
