Trump Wants You To Support Exceptions To Abortions

( – During a campaign stop in Iowa on Wednesday, Donald Trump attempted to walk back his previous attacks on Republican states’ abortion laws, urging his supporters to follow their hearts, Newsmax reported.

Over the weekend, Trump appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” where he slammed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for signing a 6-week abortion law, calling Florida’s “Heartbeat Law” a “terrible thing.” Trump told host Kristen Welker that it was a “terrible mistake” for DeSantis to sign the bill into law.

When asked if he would sign a federal law restricting abortion to the first 15 weeks, Trump said he wouldn’t. Instead, he said he would negotiate with Democrat lawmakers to reach an agreement on the “number of weeks or months or however you want to define it.”

He said if he becomes president, Republicans and Democrats would “come together” and the country could finally put the issue “behind us.”

Republicans hit back at Trump’s comments, accusing him of capitulating to Democrats on abortion, with many pro-life advocates condemning Trump’s remarks.

In an interview with ABC News anchor Linsey Davis, Governor DeSantis said it was a “big mistake” for Trump to attack states that have passed abortion restrictions. The Florida governor accused Trump of flip-flopping on the issue, saying he is taking a different position now than he did when he first ran for president.

To stem the bleeding, Trump tried to clarify his remarks while speaking to Iowa supporters on Wednesday, saying Republicans with lose in 2024 if they support abortion laws without exceptions for rape, incest, or to protect the life of the mother.

However, all of those exceptions are included in Florida’s Heartbeat Law.

Trump claimed that Republicans got “clobbered” in the 2022 midterms because they couldn’t speak “properly” about abortion and suggested that if Republicans want to win in 2024, they “must learn to talk properly about abortion.”

Trump said Democrats must be exposed as the “true radicals” on abortion, adding that pro-lifers aren’t radical.
