Trump May Face Another Gag Order in Documents Case

(TargetDailyNews.com) – Donald Trump may earn yet another judicial gag order after special counsel Jack Smith got upset with the former president for claims Trump has made about the FBI’s authorization to use deadly force during the August 2022 raid on Mar-a-Lago.

The FBI launched an unprecedented armed raid on the former president’s Florida home, looking for classified documents from the Trump presidency. At the time, Trump complained that agents rampaged through his property, even going through clothes closets and private areas belonging to his wife, Melania, and his son, Barron.

On May 24th, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a request with the court to prevent Trump from making what the DOJ calls “intentionally false and inflammatory statements.”

At issue are Trump’s claims on his social media platform Truth Social. Trump wrote that “crooked Joe Biden” “AUTHORIZED THE FBI TO USE DEADLY (LETHAL) FORCE” (all caps as in the original.) It is true, however, that the FBI was authorized to use deadly force, but the agency says this is a universal policy in such raids and that there was “no departure from the norm in these matters.” In other words, it was not personal, and it was not about Trump.

With the endless legal attacks and lawfare against Trump, some observers note he cannot be blamed for being on heightened alert. however, one would not know this from reading mainstream media, most of which editorializes heavily in allegedly straight news coverage. Coverage from The Hill, putatively a straight news story, calls Trump’s claims “outrageous.”

After special counsel Jack Smith’s latest request for another gag on Trump’s speech, Trump’s lawyers said such a move would be “unconstitutional.” His legal team wants the court to sanction lawyers on Smith’s side. They say the DOJ lawyers violated the judge’s rules by failing to confer with Trump’s team before filing their latest motion.

It does seem likely that the Trump campaign team was exaggerating the alleged danger against the candidate. A fundraising email recently claimed the “DOJ was authorized to shoot me,” which makes the situation sound as though there was a government plan to possibly assassinate Trump.

For its part, the FBI says they chose to raid Mar-a-Lago when Trump was not there to avoid any unpleasant encounters.
