(TargetDailyNews.com) – Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was flabbergasted and incensed over the Senate’s refusal to hold an impeachment trial for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The incident marked the first time in American history that articles of impeachment were sent to the Senate from the House without being examined.
Cruz said that in our country’s history, articles of impeachment have passed from the House just 22 times. The Senate held a trial every time except in cases where the individual died or resigned voluntarily, until now. Republicans controlled the Senate and presided over not one, but two impeachments of former President Donald Trump for comparison.
Cruz blasted Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) saying he tossed “two centuries of precedent” out the window in a post on X. He suggested that Democrats are completely lawless in their quest for power.
The Senate voted along strict party lines to table the issue permanently. The 51-49 vote assured that Mayorkas will not face the potential of having his role in the southern border crisis elaborated in a public trial, nor will he have to worry about being disgracefully removed from office.
Senate Democrats claimed that the articles passed by the House did not meet the threshold for “high crimes and misdemeanors” which is the bar for impeachment according to the Constitution. Republicans maintain that failure to secure the country’s borders is one of the most vital functions of government, and Mayorkas as DHS chief is the man most responsible for that duty.
The articles passed against Mayorkas would have seen him tried for violating his oath of office, as well as breaching the “public trust.” It’s been estimated that an additional ten million foreigners illegally crossed the southern border using the ostensible excuse of seeking asylum under the Biden administration.
Major incidents of illegal aliens engaging in violent crime, including the recent murder of nursing student Laken Riley by an illegal immigrant with a criminal record who was arrested in New York City and then released continuously remind the public that the Democrats don’t care about American lives or upholding the rule of law.
