(TargetDailyNews.com) – Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) got a dose of his own party’s politics when a trip to San Francisco for an event resulted in the theft of his property and an embarrassing appearance at a black-tie event in jeans, a t-shirt, and a hiking vest. Schiff’s car was broken into while parked in a garage and the thief took Schiff’s luggage, which had his formalwear inside.
Schiff was giving a speech at a fundraising event in his home state of California which has notoriously been overrun with criminal antics like petty theft. Schiff attempted to defuse the tension by joking that “they took my bags” while saying he was “here to thank Joe.” Not Joe Biden, however; he was referring to attorney Joe Cotchett who helped organize the event. Schiff is vying to replace the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).
Cotchett said that Schiff handled it well and played it off like he was wearing his suit nonetheless. Schiff didn’t focus on the problem beyond quipping about it early. He added that Schiff would “change the Senate” upon his arrival.
Criminals breaking into parked cars in California is a huge problem. District Attorneys and police both seem apt to allow the situation to continue while local residents refuse to vote their leaders out or hold them accountable. In the incredibly popular tourist neighborhood of North Beach, there were over 2,500 break-ins into vehicles during the first half of 2023. The problem has become so bad that residents have taken to leaving their trunks open and doors unlocked with nothing inside the vehicle to dissuade potential criminals from damaging it.
The problem is likely even worse than the data indicates because many don’t even report criminal incidents anymore. What’s the point? When police can’t keep offenders behind bars, judges won’t sentence them to sufficient prison time, and the politicians in Sacramento don’t feel pressure to address the problem, why would they?
Will Adam Schiff change his politics simply due to a little embarrassment and inconvenience?
