(TargetDailyNews.com) – President Biden is taking flak from conservatives after signing an executive order to attempt to slow the invasion at the southern border by illegal entrants. Biden’s plan resembled the “bipartisan” Senate border agreement that was soundly rejected by most conservatives, despite an endorsement by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) called the plan “a joke” in a post on X published on June 4th. Rubio highlighted that even if the plan was implemented, and that’s a big “if,” it would still grant legal entry to nearly a million more people coming over the border claiming to seek asylum. Rubio added that the current horde in the country is roughly 10 million strong due to Biden and the Democrats’ policies.
Biden’s order would close ports of entry if the average number of asylum seekers reaches 2,500 or more per week, which it has been for some time. The previous Senate border agreement would have allowed 5,000 entries per week, effectively legalizing illegal entry.
In just the month of April, Customs and Border Patrol officials said they had 179,725 encounters with border crossers claiming to seek asylum.
Biden’s order is also unpopular within the Democrat party itself. More radical members like Rep. Nanette Barragan (D-CA) said she was “disappointed” Biden is moving toward restricting criminal entry, she’s apparently a big fan. Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA) compared Biden’s plan to the 1939 rejection of the St. Louis, a ship from Germany that was carrying Jewish refugees. The St. Louis was forced to return home and over 200 of the passengers were subsequently killed during the Holocaust. Takano is implying that the rest of the world is engaged in genocide against nonspecific members of their own populations.
The ACLU is also threatening to sue Biden over the plan. In their press release, they argue that Biden’s restrictions will place asylum seekers’ “lives at risk.” They also compared the plan to a similar policy Trump took during his administration.
