Mike Pence Blasts Vivek Ramaswamy For Lack Of Experience

(TargetDailyNews.com) – Former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate Mike Pence made it a priority to go after fellow presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy during the first Republican primary presidential debate on Wednesday, August 23rd.

Pence, the candidate with by far the most political experience, attempted to make fun of Ramaswamy for his lack of political experience, saying that this isn’t the time for “on-the-job training.”

There is of course irony rooted in Pence’s attack, having served as vice president alongside Donald Trump, a man who had never held any public office prior to being elected president in 2016.

This only seemed to strengthen Ramaswamy’s appeal to the Republican Party’s Trump-era populist bent. The 38-year-old’s youth and political inexperience allowed him to portray himself as an outsider who contrasts with out-of-touch establishment politicians.

Ramaswamy asked sarcastically whether or not he and the other candidates could “have a real discussion now,” attacking the other candidates for their “pre-prepared speeches and slogans.”

The news comes as former President Donald Trump was notably not in attendance that night. His reason for not attending the debate is due to how far ahead he is of the other candidates, according to the polls. The RealClearPolitics Republican nomination polling average has Trump sitting at a staggering 55.4%, a clear majority of GOP voters.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the former president’s strongest contender, has since declined to a mere 14.3%. This means Trump leads the second-place spot by a little over 44 points. Vice President Pence is even lower on the totem pole, polling just 4% in the latest polling average.

The news also comes as Ramaswamy has been singled out by pundits as the best-performing candidate by far during the primary debate.

President and CEO of Republican Main Street Partnership Sarah Chamberlain, on The Hill’s “2024 Debate Breakdown” event, said that presidential candidate Nikki Haley ran a debate more designed for a general election, whereas Ramaswamy did a better job at running a primary debate.
