(TargetDailyNews.com) – Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who’s already been highly criticized for his failure to secure the southern border, blamed the U.S. Secret Service (which is subordinate to the DHS) for security failures that resulted in an assassination attempt against GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump on Saturday, July 13. So far, no official in the Biden administration or Secret Service has accepted responsibility or resigned.
Mayorkas told corporate media that violence as a means for political ends cannot be tolerated in American society as it violates the fundamental principle of the rule of law. He added that multiple investigations are ongoing, including a review ordered by President Joe Biden of everything that led to the incident.
Multiple questions arose immediately following the shooting, from how 20-year-old shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to climb up on the roof of a nearby building to why minutes passed after the crowd identified him as a potential threat before Crooks opened fire. Crooks killed one rally-goer and critically injured two more people. He also clipped Trump’s ear. Many Trump supporters suggested God had spared him.
Mayorkas also said they’re making changes to ensure similar events won’t happen again in the future. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle attempted to blame local police, while former Marine sniper Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) highlighted several problems with that claim, suggesting that the failures largely happened well in advance of the day of the shooting in comments with corporate media.
Mills suggested that Secret Service snipers should have been on the roof of the building where Crooks was. He also suggested that there should have been clear communication to identify Crooks as a potential threat and not a police sniper. It’s been explained that the building Crooks was atop was being used by local police for staging, additionally raising questions about how he was able to climb onto the roof using a ladder with a rifle slung over his shoulder without interruption.
Trump issued calls to add Secret Service protection to independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. RFK has had previous attempts to garner protection rebuffed by the Biden administration, but the request was granted on Monday, following the attempt on Trump’s life.
