Lara Trump Defends Former President after Hogan Comments

(TargetDailyNews.com) – Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump lashed out at a GOP candidate for Senate on June 2nd for a remark he made regarding the recent verdict against Donald Trump.

Maryland Republican Larry Hogan had publicly stated that Americans should “respect” the verdict in Donald Trump’s hush money trial in Manhattan. A jury recently convicted the former president on 34 counts of falsifying business records. Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg managed to string these charges into felonies by claiming these financial entries were in service of another crime. That other crime was left unspecified and was not among the charges.

The case stemmed from a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, who claimed she had an extramarital affair with Donald Trump in 2006; he denies this.

Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee, was displeased with Larry Hogan’s remarks. She told CNN host Kasie Hunt that his remarks were “ridiculous.” and that Hogan should have thought longer and harder before speaking. Lara Trump said she doesn’t support Hogan’s point of view, and that he does not “deserve the respect” of any Republican party member or politician, or of any American citizen.

Before the verdict against Donald Trump was announced last week, Hogan said Americans should respect “the legal process” and whatever verdict was delivered. This likely provoked Lara Trump, who, like many Americans and legal observers, believes the case against the former president was legally weak and almost entirely motivated by a Democrat agenda to neutralize Trump as a presidential contender.

The verdict was the first time any American president has been charged with, let alone convicted of, a felony. Donald Trump is almost certain to appeal the case.

In a statement, Hogan had said the country was at a “dangerously divided moment in history.” Every leader, left and right, he said, should avoid making it worse with “toxic partisanship.” He said the rule of law was what made America great, and that everyone must reaffirm that.

It’s a tough sell to millions who think the case has nothing to do with the rule of law, and everything to do with using the legal system to advantage incumbent President Joe Biden.

Some observers believe Lara Trump’s statements signal that the RNC will pull support from Hogan, its own nominee.
