Johnson Forms Alliance with Trump to Save His Job

( – House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and former President Donald Trump issued a joint statement on Friday, April 12th, regarding election integrity during an appearance at Mar-A-Lago. The pair took the moment to announce a new bill on election integrity in advance of the 2024 contest.

Trump endorsed Johnson’s performance despite criticism from some hardcore Trump supporters like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). Greene had threatened to oust the Speaker over concerns he intended to bring additional Ukrainian war funding to the floor for a vote. Many conservatives are against additional funding, but Democrats and some Republicans seem to believe the war in Ukraine should be funded without limits.

Trump said that he gets “along very well with Marjorie” and was sure that she understood that Johnson was doing the best job he could given difficult circumstances. The announcement was focused on an election integrity bill that the Republicans have yet to unveil. The bill would require proof of citizenship to vote and close loopholes in some states’ voter registration protocols which allow illegals to register. Some states allow people to simply state their citizenship status without proving it, this bill would correct that.

Johnson highlighted Biden’s open border policy and over ten million illegals in the country currently as justification for the new bill. Democrats have suggested the bill is unnecessary and politically motivated.

CNN writers were incredibly critical of the new legislation while attempting to reify the legend of Joe Biden’s free and fair election. They called suggestions that the 2020 election was rigged a conspiracy that “wreaked enormous damage,” including the January 6th Capitol riot. They did not reference the disproven Russiagate hoax which Democrats ran for years in the aftermath of Trump’s 2016 election. That hoax claimed that Russia had helped rig the election in Trump’s favor and remained a Democrat talking point for nearly Trump’s entire administration.

Unlike claims that the 2020 election was rigged, there wasn’t a Time Magazine article where Russians bragged about the efforts to sway the election toward their desired outcome.
