(TargetDailyNews.com) – Just 24 hours after a letter bearing Joe Biden’s signature was posted to the White House X account announcing his departure from the 2024 presidential contest, Vice President Kamala Harris recited an awkward “political eulogy” of her boss, championing his legacy in office and explaining how they originally met.
Pausing during her scripted speech, Harris told an audience member “Yes, you may clap,” which she followed with her standard laugh. The event was ostensibly to honor the accomplishments of the NCAA’s championship teams, yet Harris found the time to slip in a few remarks about Biden exiting the race.
She suggested his legacy was “unmatched,” which likely isn’t contested by Republicans and Trump supporters. She also referred to Biden as “our president” and suggested he’s recovering from a certain infamous respiratory virus. Harris claimed that Biden “surpassed the legacy” of prior presidents who had served multiple terms.
Harris also mentioned how she met Biden through his deceased son, Beau. She recalled working together as they were both state attorneys general. Beau Biden served the state of Delaware from 2007 through 2015. Harris served California between 2011 and 2017.
Harris said she was “a firsthand witness” to Joe Biden’s willingness to defend the American people and expressed gratitude for his performance.
Harris is now the presumptive Democratic nominee to face off against former President Donald Trump. Biden endorsed her in his announcement letter and she was subsequently endorsed by both Bill and Hillary Clinton. Crucially, a letter from Barack Obama praising Biden for his decision to drop out left out mention of an endorsement for Harris, instead citing a process that would result in the official selection in the coming weeks.
Biden has had a rough couple of weeks following a disastrous debate performance against Trump in late June. A failed assassination attempt on Trump, the revolt of Democratic donors, and reported pressure to withdraw under threat of the 25th Amendment have all taken their toll.
