Democrats Raise Jaw-Dropping Sum after Biden’s Withdrawal

(TargetDailyNews.com) – A Democratic fundraising PAC says President Joe Biden’s “surprise” announcement that he is dropping out of the presidential race has opened the funding floodgates.

ActBlue claims donors kicked in almost $47 million to the Democrat efforts after Biden’s announcement. After posting a letter announcing his departure from the race on July 21st, Biden’s social media team followed up with a later post, allegedly from Biden, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris.

The New York Times claims the fundraising take is the largest in a single day for online donations since the 2020 presidential race. ActBlue says all the money came in by 9 at night on that Sunday, claiming it indicates that “small-dollar donors are fired up.” Skeptics can be forgiven for wondering if the dollar amount truly signals support for Harris, or whether it signals a commitment to vote against Donald Trump. Like most other polls, a recent survey found that only 36 percent of Americans approve of the job Harris has done in office.

Still, the uptick in cash flow is notable. Prior to the Sunday shake-up, the Democrats were bringing in about $200,000 every hour. When Biden dropped out and endorsed Harris, that skyrocketed to $7.5 million.

Democratic strategist Kenneth Pennington wrote on Twitter/X that Sunday may have been “the greatest fundraising moment” in the history of the party.

Not everyone is sold. On the large-donor front, Florida lawyer John Morgan said he’s not going to do anything to bolster Harris’ war chest. It’s all well and good to vote for someone, he said, but you “have to really be in” to commit to raising millions of dollars for a candidate. Morgan thinks the 59-year-old former California District Attorney is too far to the left to beat Donald Trump.

Harris will also benefit from what might be called “passive income.” Since she was on the Biden-Harris ticket, the $96 million the campaign had when Biden dropped out will go to her.
