(TargetDailyNews.com) – Yet again, the Biden Department of Justice has been lying about information in its possession to keep unflattering information about the president out of the public eye.
In a July 22nd court filing, the DOJ reversed course on its earlier claim that it did not have transcriptions of President Biden’s interviews with a biographer. After claiming that it did not “have some transcript” to produce, the DOJ has admitted that it does. The Heritage Foundation had filed a Freedom of Information Act Request for those transcripts, to which the DOJ responded that it did not have them.
Just last month, lawyers for the DOJ complained to a judge that it would take too much time to process more than 70 hours of audio recordings of talks between Biden and Zwonitzer into a written transcript.
The interviews in question occurred between Joe Biden and biographer Mark Zwonitzer between 2007 and 2017 as Zwonitzer was helping Biden create his memoirs. Those interviews became relevant when former Special Counsel Robert Hur interviewed Biden as part of an investigation into whether the president broke the law by keeping classified documents at his residence.
In his February report, Hur wrote that Biden had significant memory lapses and could not be prosecuted because a jury would find him to be a sympathetic old man who could not remember his earlier actions. This caused feigned outrage among Democrats, who accused Hur of slandering the president. It also stoked interest among the president’s opponents in getting their hands on the transcripts of Biden’s earlier discussions with Zwonitzer.
On Monday, July 22nd, the DOJ admitted in a court brief that it had recently “located” six electronic files that “appeared to be verbatim transcripts” of a small part of the conversations between Biden and Zwonitzer.
Ever keen to maintain secrecy, Attorney General Merrick Garland ruled in February that both the earlier Zwonitzer transcripts and the more recent transcripts of Hur’s talks with Biden fall outside FOIA disclosure rules. It is unclear if this latest DOJ admission will change that.
