(TargetDailyNews.com) – California police arrested a Sacramento County father and son in connection with the youth shooting and killing another young boy. Arkete Davis, 53, and his ten-year-old unnamed son were arrested on Saturday, December 30th after the youth used his father’s illegally owned weapon to shoot and kill another 10-year-old.
The weapon was allegedly kept in Davis’s vehicle, where his son had gone to retrieve cigarettes for his father. Upon retrieving the cigarettes from the car, the boy also grabbed his father’s gun.
Police arrived to find the victim unresponsive and bleeding from his head and neck. It was initially unclear how many times the child had been shot. Witnesses told deputies that the shooter was hiding in a nearby residence, which police were able to evacuate without incident. They arrested the boy and his father.
Police report that homicide detectives investigated the scene and spoke with witnesses. They report seeing the boy return from the vehicle with the weapon that he used to shoot the other boy once before fleeing. The weapon was located in a trash bin nearby. Police confirmed Davis was legally prohibited from owning a firearm due to his status as a convicted felon.
Police said that the weapon used was reported stolen in 2017. Davis is being held on a $500,000 bond.
The 10-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Davis will face multiple felony charges, including accessory after the fact and child endangerment. His son will be held in a juvenile detention facility and will face murder charges.
Family members identified the victim as Keith “KJ” Frierson, according to KCRA Sacramento.
Davis’ son will be charged within 48 hours of his arrest due to local laws and is expected to be released to his family members. It’s unclear if there were family members available to care for the boy after his father’s arrest.
